Local-only meeting transcription using whisper.cpp and Ollama. Records, transcribes, summarises, and lets you query your meetings. Nothing hits the cloud.

Keep your meetings off someone else's servers

Otter.ai, Fireflies, all the cloud transcription lot. They work fine. They also ship your entire meeting audio to someone else's servers. If you're discussing client work, anything under NDA, or just don't fancy your standup living on a box in Virginia, that's not great.

StenoAI runs the whole pipeline locally. whisper.cpp does the transcription, Ollama does the summaries. Both bundled in the app, no separate installs. Audio goes in, transcript and summary come out, nothing leaves your machine. Sorted.

Captures system audio too, so both sides of a video call get transcribed, not just your mic. There's an "Ask Steno" feature where you chat against your transcript afterwards, which is properly handy for pulling action items out of a rambling hour-long call. Calendar integration with Google and Outlook so it knows what meeting you're in. 99 languages.

The models are tuneable. Smaller whisper model for speed, bigger one for accuracy. Same with Ollama: 2GB model if you're light on RAM, 14GB if you want proper summaries. Teams at AWS, Deliveroo, and Tesco apparently use it, which tells you the quality holds up outside hobby projects. If your meetings involve anything you wouldn't want on someone else's server, this is a doddle to set up.
